Academic Advisor

Meet Emily

I graduated from USD with a BA in history, and I'm proud to be back at my alma mater! During my time as an undergrad, I was active in the Honors Program, the Pep Band, and the Humanities Center Keck Fellows. One of my favorite experiences was researching Norse law using primary references in Iceland as a Keck Fellow.

After USD, I earned my MA in history from UCLA, where I researched medieval Italian law through an interdisciplinary lens. Before returning to USD, I explored a variety of roles, from coordinating volunteers on an archaeological dig in Ireland to developing content for Advanced Placement review software.

Now, as an academic advisor in the College of Arts and Sciences, I'm here to provide academic support and counseling to undergraduate students. I can help you fulfill graduation requirements, navigate the Core, and register for courses. I’m passionate about the importance of interdisciplinary research and collaboration, and I encourage you to use your liberal arts education to pursue unique and exciting paths.

Meet Karina

I joined USD in November 2022 as an academic advisor in the College of Arts and Sciences. I'm here to help you with everything from registration questions to keeping track of your graduation requirements. Whether you need advice on navigating college life or are pondering your future after graduation, I'm ready to chat.

Before joining USD, I spent 15 years teaching writing and literature at Point Loma Nazarene University (PLNU). I was deeply involved in the First Year Writing program and the LEAP program, which provides extra academic and personal support for students transitioning to college life. I also taught literature courses on Jane Austen and women writers. My career in higher education began as an admissions counselor at Calvin University, and I also worked as an administrative assistant to the dean of general education at PLNU.

I'm excited to support you on your college journey and beyond.
